What is the density of die-cast zinc alloy?

From: Back to list
In recent years, zinc alloys have been widely used, as are traditional aluminum alloys for household hardware and engineering metals. Zinc alloys have higher hardness and higher tensile strength than aluminum alloys, but they are not as plastic as aluminum alloys.
What is the density of zinc alloy
The density of zinc aluminum alloy is 6.3 grams per cubic centimeter. The density of die-cast zinc alloy is generally 6.75 grams per cubic centimeter. Zinc alloy has a hardness of about 65-140 and a tensile strength of 260-440, while aluminum alloy has a hardness of about 45-90 and a tensile strength of 120-290.
The main element of zinc alloy is zinc, which is generally greater than 85%. The zinc alloy has a low melting point and good fluidity (castable thin-walled parts). It is easy to weld, braze, and plastically process. It is resistant to corrosion in dry air and the atmosphere. Scrap is easy to recycle and remelt, but the creep strength is low, and natural aging can change the size. Zinc alloys can be divided into cast zinc alloys and deformed zinc alloys according to the manufacturing process. The output of cast alloys is much larger than that of deformed alloys.

Features of die-cast zinc alloy
According to different casting methods, the cast zinc alloy is divided into pressure cast zinc alloy (solidified under the action of applied pressure) and gravity cast zinc alloy (solidified only under the action of gravity). Since the application of die-cast zinc alloy in the automobile industry in 1940, it has developed rapidly and the output has increased dramatically. About 25% of the total zinc consumption is used to produce this alloy. A commonly used alloy system is a Zn-Al-Cu-Mg system.

Aluminum can refine the grains, improve the strength and impact toughness of zinc, and significantly reduce the corrosion of molten zinc on the iron container, avoid welding or adhesion of the casting and the die, so that the zinc alloy can be used in the hot chamber die casting machine Production to increase productivity. A suitable content of aluminum is about 3.5 to 4.3%.

Copper can increase the strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance of zinc alloys, but excessive addition will reduce the impact toughness and dimensional stability of the alloy after aging. The high copper content in the die-cast zinc alloy is 1.25%, which is well controlled below 1%. If the casting is large or requires high dimensional stability, an alloy with a low copper content should be selected.

Magnesium can reduce the corrosion of materials in the die-cast zinc alloy, and can also eliminate the harmful effects of impurities such as lead and tin; the content of magnesium is about 0.01 to 0.08%, usually not more than 0.05%. If the content is too large, hot brittleness will occur, making casting difficult.

Certain impurities significantly affect the properties of die-cast zinc alloys. Therefore, the content of impurities such as iron, lead, cadmium, and tin is extremely restricted, and the upper limits are 0.005%, 0.004%, 0.003%, and 0.02%, so high-purity zinc with a purity of more than 99.99% should be used as the raw material for the die-cast zinc alloy.

Types of die-cast zinc alloy
Gravity casting zinc alloy: can be cast in sand mold, plaster mold or hard mold. This kind of zinc alloy not only has the characteristics of general die-casting zinc alloy, but also has high strength, good casting performance, cooling speed has no obvious effect on mechanical properties, residual and waste materials can be recycled, simple gates, insensitive to overheating and remelting, shrinkage The rate is small, the porosity is small, it can be electroplated, and it can be finished by conventional methods.
Wrought zinc alloys: In addition to the traditional varieties of industrially used wrought zinc alloys, Zn-1Cu-0.1Ti and Zn-22Al alloys have appeared. After the former alloy is rolled, because the dispersed particles of TiZn15 intermetallic compound are arranged in a row along the rolling direction, it can hinder the movement of the grain boundary, so the creep strength can be significantly improved. This kind of zinc alloy has fine grains and good low-temperature plasticity. In addition to producing products by general molding methods, it can also be rolled into complex shapes. Zn-22Al alloy is superplastic under certain conditions.
